A Sign of Spring

Before the official start of spring, daffodils begin dotting the landscape with bright green and yellow amidst a dreary winter backdrop – a symbol of hope for what’s to come.

I have always loved daffodils. My mom made sure of that. It’s my birth month flower, so every year my mom has pointed out when the flowers are making their debut – a symbol of my spring birthday – something to celebrate.

In Missouri, it’s not uncommon to have daffodils popping up while snow is falling. It’s a beautiful contrast, yet it’s also a shock to the daffodil leaving the warmth of the dirt. The flowers may droop or even scar from the elements, but once the snow melts away, they stand tall again and continue to grow.

Daffodils remind me of life with God, because they symbolize rebirth and hope. Even when the world hurts us, hinders our growth, or leaves us cold, that is not the end of our story. God provides our new beginning, our hope, and renewal.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Revelation 21:5
